As if by Magic...
As if by magic, the world introduces you to something that totally chimes with one's current preoccupations! Found via the bio of Caitlin Mociun, the photographs of Karl Blossfeldt - who lived and worked in Berlin during the turn of the 20th century, and who's major body of work included the collection and photographing of plants.

A Walk in the Park
I've been considering recently how indecision breeds an unappealing sense of misery. Or, in other words, the longer you draw out a decision - the more you weigh-up the tightly balanced options - the more agonized the outcome will be. I'd like to adopt a practice where I can make and decide as quickly as possible, and decide about the outcome afterwards.
For a while I've been thinking about the graphics and colours used by Memphis Blues Design group (and spotting references in Modular's paper section!) and the way they chose to introduce the unusual and clashing to their pieces (and to peoples' homes). That, and the Apartamento magazine piece on Dominique Nabokov's 'Paris Living Rooms', and the magazine's general appreciation of how the devil is the sublime details of peoples' pairing of objects and textures in their own spaces.
The pictures here are of a documented day-long project I made of finding the material for the surface graphics of a paper-bead necklace I wanted to make. Walking through the local park - Hasen Heide - the aim was to wander an unusual path, to take notice of the shapes and textures around me, collecting flowers and leaves that I found interesting. I collaged the flowers to make a graphic that I could duplicate at the (brilliant and helpful! Berliners take note!) copy shop, to then turn into the paper beads.
The trees on the way to the park are beautiful too. Poplars make the most amazing noise.
