Pretty bowled over (as ever) by what my dear, talented friend Hannah Waldron is producing. Her work is ageless.

Happy Accidents

I never fail to be impressed/inspired by the work of Bertjan Pot. He rests around-about the same spot in my mind as Achille Castiglioni. Never one to be defeated, these masks arose out of an experiment originally intended for rugs. I'm also reading Bill Bryson's 'At Home' at the moment, which describes how the domestic environments in which we live have evolved. Both seems to attest to the idea that some of the best ideas are born out of happy accidents.

Hockney Spot-on

This time of year makes me think of Yorkshire, in all it's finery.

Somewhere to park...

Just back from the Milan Salone - my first time visiting - I felt so uplifted by the atmosphere, that I thought I'd try my hand at building something big.

I'm not a furniture or product designer, so it was really nice to find Max Lamb's step-by-step instructions to lead the way. It was a great way to engage with all the detailed structure considerations of a chair, which was really interesting.

Design so good you NEED it

Majorly obsessing over Braun watches at the moment, this one in particular. Generally appreciating the rational approach that's inherent in so much German design. This simple, reductive approach is apprarent is so much successful work. Periodically it pops it's subtle nose above the screaming design-parapet. Case-in-point, I came across this interesting - if slightly cynical - post about the similarities between Dieter Rams and Johanthan Ives.

Shemuel Katz's Sun

Looking for various representations of the sun, and came across the work of Shemuel Katz, an Israeli Illustrator working throughout the establishment of the state of Israel.

I'm in love with these Japaense Komebukuro ('rice bag'), found via here.
